Position Summary
MetronCS is seeking a skilled Walk-In Cooler/Freezer Installer to join our restaurant finishes team. You will assemble, install, and commission refrigeration units for premium restaurants and commercial kitchens, including compressor systems, controls, and connectivity. Your expertise in refrigeration systems, mechanical installation, and commissioning will ensure every walk-in unit operates efficiently and maintains food safety standards from day one.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble modular walk-in cooler and freezer units from component panels and frames
- Install walk-in units in designated kitchen locations with proper floor support
- Install and connect refrigeration compressor systems with proper electrical and mechanical connections
- Connect refrigerant lines with proper brazing and pressure testing
- Install digital temperature controls and monitoring systems
- Connect electrical power and ensure proper grounding and circuit protection
- Perform system startup procedures and pressure/vacuum testing
- Charge refrigeration systems with appropriate refrigerants following EPA regulations
- Test and verify proper cooling performance at design temperatures
- Coordinate with electrical trades on power requirements and final connections
- Provide system documentation and operator training to restaurant staff
- Maintain compliance with refrigeration codes and food safety standards
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of commercial refrigeration installation and service experience
- Strong knowledge of walk-in cooler/freezer systems and component operation
- Experience with refrigeration compressors, controls, and electrical connections
- Ability to read refrigeration drawings and interpret system specifications
- Knowledge of EPA refrigerant handling and certification requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- EPA Section 608 Refrigerant Handler Certification
- Experience with multiple walk-in unit manufacturers
- Understanding of commercial HVAC and building codes
- Project management or coordination experience
Certifications Required
- EPA Section 608 Refrigerant Handler Certification (required) or willingness to obtain
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs regularly
- Comfortable working in confined kitchen spaces during installation
- Ability to work at heights and in various positions for extended periods
- Comfortable working with refrigeration equipment and mechanical systems
