Utility Contractor
Position Overview
MetronCS Commercial Services is seeking experienced Utility Contractors to install underground utilities including water, sewer, gas, and storm drainage connections on commercial construction projects. You'll oversee utility installation crews, coordinate with municipal utilities, ensure code compliance, and verify proper functionality of all utility connections. This role is essential for project infrastructure and requires strong technical knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
- Install water lines, sewer lines, and storm drain systems according to specifications and local codes
- Install gas lines and coordinate with gas utility companies for connections and inspections
- Perform trenching and utility burial in coordination with excavation contractors
- Coordinate utility locates and work around existing utilities to prevent damage
- Test and verify proper operation of all installed utility systems
- Coordinate connections with municipal water, sewer, and gas utilities
- Ensure proper slope, depth, and protection of underground utilities
- Install utility sleeves and coordinate with other trades for clearances
- Prepare utility connection drawings and as-built documentation
- Manage utility contractor crews and coordinate schedule with project timeline
- Ensure compliance with local codes, building permits, and utility company requirements
- Respond to construction problems and coordinate solutions
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years of utility installation contractor experience
- Strong knowledge of water, sewer, gas, and storm drain installation practices
- Understanding of local codes and utility company requirements
- Proficiency with utility installation equipment and tools
- Ability to read and interpret utility plans and specifications
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel between project sites
- Strong safety knowledge and commitment to hazard control
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with restaurant or commercial utility projects
- Journeyman certification in plumbing or utility installation
- Knowledge of utility testing and commissioning procedures
- Familiarity with site plans, grading plans, and utility coordination
Physical Requirements
Ability to work on active construction sites, including working in trenches and underground utility work. Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs, work in confined spaces, and spend extended periods standing or bending. Full PPE compliance including hard hat, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots required. Ability to work in wet conditions and various weather.
