Structural Steel Worker

Position Overview

MetronCS Commercial Services is seeking experienced Structural Steel Workers to erect structural steel frames, install beams, columns, and metal decking on commercial construction projects. You'll work at heights with precision equipment, collaborate with crane operators and ironworkers, and ensure proper alignment and connection of structural components. This high-skill trade role is essential to building commercial structures.

Key Responsibilities

• Erect structural steel frames including beams, columns, and connections
• Install metal decking and roof systems on structural steel framework
• Use welding equipment for connections and ensure proper bolt tightening
• Read and interpret structural drawings and details with precision
• Work at heights on steel structures with proper fall protection
• Coordinate with crane operators for proper placement of steel members
• Check alignment and plumb of structural elements during installation
• Install temporary bracing and shoring as needed for safety
• Perform bolting, welding, and riveting as required for connections
• Coordinate with other trades for proper sequencing and clearances
• Maintain equipment and tools in safe working condition
• Follow strict safety protocols for work at heights and with heavy materials

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of structural steel erection experience
• Strong understanding of steel connections and assembly methods
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and specialized steel tools
• Ability to read structural drawings and specifications accurately
• Comfort working at heights and with fall protection systems
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel between project sites
• High school diploma or equivalent; trade certification preferred

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with commercial or restaurant structural steel projects
• Certified Ironworker or Structural Steel Worker certification
• Welding certification (AWS)
• Experience with metal deck installation and roof systems

Certifications Required

Valid driver's license required. Fall protection and working at heights certification required. Welding certification (AWS) or ironworker certification strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work at heights regularly, including climbing and balance on steel structures. Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs, work in various weather conditions, and maintain balance and coordination on elevated surfaces. Full PPE compliance including hard hat, safety harness, glasses, and steel-toed boots required at all times. Must pass medical clearance for heights work.
