Safety Officer
Position Overview
MetronCS Commercial Services is seeking a dedicated Safety Officer to develop and enforce comprehensive safety programs across our construction projects. You'll conduct site inspections, develop safety protocols, lead safety training, and ensure full compliance with OSHA and Ontario Health & Safety regulations. This role is critical to protecting our workforce and maintaining our commitment to zero-incident construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement site-specific safety programs and procedures for each project
- Conduct daily and weekly safety inspections; identify hazards and document deficiencies
- Investigate and document all accidents, near-misses, and injuries; prepare incident reports
- Lead safety training sessions and toolbox talks for all trades and employees
- Monitor compliance with PPE requirements, fall protection, equipment use, and safety protocols
- Coordinate with project managers on safety performance metrics and improvements
- Maintain comprehensive safety documentation including permits, SDS, training records, and inspections
- Ensure compliance with Ontario Health & Safety Act, OSHA regulations, and WorkSafeBC/WSIB requirements
- Conduct pre-start health and safety meetings and maintain safety statistics
- Participate in site orientation and induction for new workers and subcontractors
- Recommend and implement safety improvements based on industry best practices
- Maintain emergency response procedures and conduct safety drills as required
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of construction safety experience
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, OH&S regulations, and construction safety standards
- Certification as Construction Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or CHST (Canadian Certified Safety Professional)
- Excellent communication and training skills
- Proficiency with safety software and documentation systems
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel between project sites
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with restaurant or QSR construction projects
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Card or equivalent
- Experience developing safety programs for multiple concurrent projects
- Background in OSHA 1904 recordkeeping and incident investigation
Certifications Required
CHST (Canadian Certified Safety Professional) or equivalent safety certification required. Must maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications throughout employment.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work on active construction sites regularly, including walking multiple site areas, climbing stairs and ladders, and working at heights. Must be able to wear full PPE including hard hat, safety vest, and steel-toed boots for extended periods. Ability to travel between multiple project locations as needed.
