Kitchen/Food Service Design Consultant

Job Summary

We seek an expert Kitchen and Food Service Design Consultant to plan and specify commercial kitchen layouts that optimize workflow, food safety, and operational efficiency. Your deep knowledge of food service equipment, health code requirements, and kitchen design best practices will ensure every restaurant project includes a kitchen that supports success from day one. You will collaborate with architects, engineers, and restaurant operators to deliver customized kitchen solutions across the Several Positions Open Across Canada and USA and North America.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design comprehensive commercial kitchen layouts based on menu analysis, anticipated volume, and equipment requirements
  • Specify food service equipment including cooking lines, preparation stations, refrigeration, and ventilation systems
  • Ensure all designs comply with Health Department food safety regulations, Ontario Building Code, and NFPA standards
  • Develop kitchen floor plans, equipment specifications, and utility requirement documents for construction
  • Analyze operational flow and traffic patterns to maximize efficiency and minimize bottlenecks
  • Coordinate with MEP engineers regarding ventilation, plumbing, electrical, and gas requirements
  • Prepare cost estimates for kitchen equipment and systems, managing budgets within project parameters
  • Review equipment submittals and shop drawings for code compliance and specification adherence
  • Conduct on-site inspections during kitchen installation and commissioning
  • Provide training and documentation on kitchen layout, equipment operation, and maintenance protocols

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of commercial kitchen design experience with comprehensive food service equipment knowledge
  • Expert understanding of Ontario Health Department Food Protection regulations and kitchen code requirements
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and kitchen design software; Revit experience preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food service equipment manufacturers and sourcing
  • Strong communication skills with ability to work with restaurant operators and design teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal training in Food Service Design or Culinary Science
  • NFPA 96 Ventilation Systems knowledge and certification
  • Hands-on restaurant or food service operations experience
  • Experience with sustainable kitchen design and energy-efficient equipment selection

Certifications Required

  • NFPA 96 Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to visit commercial kitchens and construction sites regularly, including climbing stairs and ladders
  • Capability to stand for extended periods during site inspections and walkthroughs
