Demolition Contractor
Position Overview
MetronCS Commercial Services seeks an experienced Demolition Contractor to manage selective demolition and complete building demolition projects, including hazardous material abatement and debris removal. You'll oversee demolition crews, manage equipment, ensure compliance with environmental regulations, and coordinate safe removal of structures and materials. This is a critical role for preparing sites for new construction in commercial renovation and new build projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute selective demolition of interior components including walls, finishes, and fixtures
- Manage complete building demolition operations including structural elements and foundations
- Coordinate hazardous material abatement (asbestos, lead paint, mold) in compliance with environmental regulations
- Oversee debris removal, waste segregation, and recycling/disposal of demolition materials
- Operate and coordinate heavy equipment including excavators, loaders, crushers, and shears
- Develop and implement safety protocols for demolition activities; conduct daily safety briefings
- Manage subcontractor crews and coordinate workflow on demolition projects
- Ensure compliance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and local environmental regulations
- Coordinate site preparation including utilities disconnection and building permits
- Document materials salvaged for reuse or recycling to minimize waste
- Maintain detailed demolition records and environmental documentation
- Communicate with project managers regarding schedule and site conditions
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of demolition contractor or supervisor experience
- Strong knowledge of demolition methods and best practices
- Understanding of environmental compliance and hazardous material regulations
- Proficiency with heavy equipment operation or supervision
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel between project sites
- Strong safety knowledge and commitment to zero-incident operations
- High school diploma or equivalent; trade certification preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with restaurant or commercial building demolition
- Training in hazardous materials abatement and environmental compliance
- MSHA or OSHA training and certifications
- Heavy equipment operation certifications
Certifications Required
Valid driver's license required. Hazardous materials certification or OSHA compliance training highly preferred. CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work on active demolition sites regularly, including operating heavy equipment, supervising crews in challenging conditions, and working at heights. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand and walk for extended periods, and wear full PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, respirator when needed, and steel-toed boots. Ability to work in dusty and potentially hazardous environments.
